A
complete set of launching accessories for the WWII era M1 Rifle: M7 Launcher M15 Auxiliary Sight M3 launching cartridge (Note the 5-petal crimp) M7 Auxiliary Grenade Cartridge (for extended range) B200968 Rubber Recoil Boot for the butt stock. The M7 auxiliary cartridge, (a.k.a. the “Vitamin Pill”) is inserted into the muzzle of the launcher with the grenade placed over it. It increased the muzzle velocity of the grenade by about %50 and range out to about 300 yards. Due to the extra recoil, it was used with the carbine in emergencies only, since a broken stock would be a likely result. (The Recoil Boot used to be a hard to find accessory. I understand some number of reproduction boots have been produced.) |

The M15 sight , shown here on the M1903 rifle, was also used with the M1 rifle and M1 carbine.
A jig was used to locate two screw holes, to which a mounting disc was attached. The sight was clamped to that as needed. While a clever design, it apparently was seldom used in the field. As with the German Schiessbecher ("Cup Launcher") a secondary sight apparatus proved impractical. |
